I Believe in Miracles!

I believe in miracles, do you? On Easter Sunday, members of my church stood on stage and shared their personal miracles through their faith in God and Jesus Christ. Click on the link below and then click on "Cardboard Testimonies" to view some of the miracles that have taken place in their lives:

The Best of Friends

Going away to college can be a scary and exciting time...taking college courses, doing your own laundry, finding a parking space, finding all of your classes, buying books, joining organizations, meeting new people, and living with roommates!!! Some people end up with roommates that they can't stand and some people end up with roommates who become their best friends. I was lucky enough to end up with roommates who became some of my best friends. In the dorm, I roomed with Amy...a very organized, energetic education major with a questionable taste in music and a heart of gold. Next door to our room was Kristi, a studious, intelligent business major with great fashion sense and a tell-it-like-it is attitude. Down the hall was Monique, a spunky, funny communication major who asked me a million questions and genuinely cared about my answers to those questions. Those, of course, were my first impressions of each of them, but there is so much more to each of them. They are each unique in their own way and they are each very special to me. On the outside, it doesn't seem like the four of us have a lot in common, but we have something very important in common...love. We love each other for exactly who we are and we have been there for each other through many ups and downs...new loves, break-ups, deaths in our families, marriages, babies, graduations, new jobs, job losses and fights with each other (because that's what roommates and friends do, right?) We have shed some tears together, but mostly we have shared laughs together...so many laughs! I think every time we get together we talk about the time that Monique almost didn't take Kristi to the hospital because she didn't want to miss church. Or, what about the time I accidentally threw my drink across the table because the guy that I liked was walking toward me in the dining hall. Another great memory is ordering Papa Johns after Lilith Fair and having them deliver it to our car. Of course I could never forget fighting with Monique about filling the ice trays in our apartment. Going backstage at the Eve Six and Third Eye Blind concert is a great memory as well. I also remember nights of eating Papa Johns or Avantis and watching Dawson's Creek in the dorms, going out to many parties and Thirsty Thursdays, visiting each other's hometowns, and practicing N'Sync dance moves. I have soooo many wonderful memories from college and beyond and I know there will be many more to come. Last weekend we all got together at Amy's house to hang out and meet the newest member of Amy's family, baby Madelynn. Logan and Devon, Amy's almost-three-year-old son, had a great time playing together and the adults had a great time reminiscing and laughing. Thanks for having us, Amy...it was a memorable gathering of the best of friends. I love you girls!!!

Happy Birthday Dad!

It didn't begin like a traditional surprise party...we didn't hide and jump out and shout "surprise". We were just all seated around the table as he sauntered up to the table and slowly looked up and down the table as a big smile spread across his face...exactly what you would expect from Gary Myers. Gary Myers, my dad, has always been a quiet, but strong influence in my life. As a child I remember being silly with him and playing with him. As a teenager I remember coming home from school everyday and eating a snack in the kitchen with him and Dane as we all watched The Brady Bunch together. More recently I remember Dad being an involved and loving grandfather. So, it was a pleasure to travel up to Lena last weekend and surprise him on his 65th birthday. We all had a great time and even though Dad didn't gush and jump up and down at his party, I know he was very happy to have us all together...it was written all over his face. Happy Birthday Dad...we love you!

Happy Valentine's Day!

The other day I was shopping for a Valentine's Day card for Jesse and I was really struggling to find one that said what I was feeling. All the cards are so mushy and lovey-dovey and they never seem to say what I'm feeling, so this is my own version of a Valentine's card for Jesse:

Thank you for making my laugh until I cry and my stomach hurts...no one can make me laugh like you.

Thank you for always being there for me...you're the first person I want to celebrate with when I have good news to share and the first person I want to comfort me when I have bad news to share.

Thank you for complimenting me so perfectly...whenever I'm upset about something you seem to have it all together and you can be perfectly calm about the situation and then whenever you're upset about something I somehow have it all together and I am calm about the situation.

Thank you for being such an awesome father...I love to watch you and Logan interact...you make him laugh and you make him feel safe and loved (I can see it in his face) and that's exactly what a father should do for his son.

Thank you for being a person I can admire and respect...you have so many qualities that I admire and respect...passion, loyalty, strong work ethic, responsibility and faith.

Thank you for enjoying the simple things in life with me...sitting on the couch eating junk food and watching TV or a movie with me or chatting and laughing in bed before we fall asleep at night...those are some of my favorite moments.

Thank you for being my best friend...you have been my best friend from the moment we started dating and you will continue to be my best friend for the rest of my life.I love you Jesse!

You know you're the mother of a one-year-old when...

...you plan a nap for yourself a week in advance.

...on the way out the door to go to work you notice a blueberry stain on your pants, but you don't care because you're just excited that you made it out of house on time.

...in addition to dusting, vacuuming and cleaning toilets, cleaning the house now includes scrubbing food off the walls.

...when looking in the mirror to put your make-up on you have to look through a variety of fingerprints and smudges where your child has licked the mirror.

...your grocery list always includes one of the following: diapers, milk, wipes, Tylenol or wine (just kidding about the wine :)

...you have to visit the place where you bought your glasses once a month so they will straighten them for you since they get pulled off your face or stepped on weekly.

...when your child wakes up from his nap or when you first get home, you race around the house closing toilet lids, hiding remotes (and other items that are off limits) and closing doors to rooms that are off limits.

...you look forward to using your steam mop!

...there's nothing better than a date night with your husband!

...you find Goldfish crumbs in the bottom of your purse and Cheerios in your shoes.

...you have every children's book in your house memorized.

...you enjoy going ANYWHERE by yourself.

...you ask yourself a million questions on a daily basis: Does he feel loved? Am I spoiling him? Does he have enough limits, but enough freedom to learn and make mistakes? Is he getting enough to eat? Is he getting enough sleep? Am I spending enough time with him? etc...

...you've never loved someone so much in your life!

Happy New Year

Our Top Ten Events of 2009:

10. Bowman Reunion: This summer many of Jesse's extended family got together here in Bloomington for several days including a biker rally to see Jesse and Troy's band perform, a cookout at our house and a dinner at a Mexican restaurant. It was great to visit with everyone!

9. Brookfield Zoo: In July, Logan and I headed up to the Brookfield Zoo and met up with Anneliese and Ryder. It was a beautiful day and the boys seemed to enjoy themselves as much as they could. I hope to go back there with Logan in the future...it was a great experience.

8. 2nd Wedding Anniversary: On our second wedding anniversary, Jesse and I dropped Logan off at his Grandparents' house and traveled to Galena for the weekend. We did some sight-seeing, drank wine, shopped and ate good food. It was my first overnight trip away from Logan and I thoroughly enjoyed myself :)

7. Holidays: We spent every holiday with family this year. We are so blessed to have family that is willing to travel to see us or willing to host us at their home so we can spend as much time together as possible.

6. Kristi and Tim's Wedding in Mexico: Jesse and I decided to throw caution to the wind and skip out on work in the middle of October (very rare for a teacher) and head down to Mexico for four days to celebrate the marriage of two close friends. What a great vacation....spending time with friends, eating good food, laying in the sun, sight-seeing and participating in a very beautiful wedding. We will have wonderful memories from this vacation/wedding for the rest of our lives.

5. Loving Life: I'm truly loving life...every aspect of it! Being a mom is my most difficult job, but by far the most rewarding. My role as a loving wife becomes more of a priority with every day that passes. My teaching job is also filled with challenges, but challenges that I'm willing to rise up to and many times overcome. Finally, my role as a Christian is a more involved role that I'm loving (see number 1 below!). Life is good!

4. Dane and Kate's Wedding: October 3, 2009 was a very special day. Dane and Kate were married before they went into the Peace Corp 2 years ago, but when they returned this year they had a celebration to share their marriage union with friends and family. Kate was a beautiful bride and Dane was a handsome and confident groom. The ceremony was beautiful and the reception was a blast. It is another day from 2009 that I will never forget.

3. Logan's 1st Birthday: On October 23, 2009 my beautiful son turned 1! I couldn't believe how fast the time had gone. On his actual birthday Jesse and I were in Mexico, but we had a party for him the day after we returned. The party was a joint party for Ryder and Logan since they are only 4 days apart. I loved watching him open his presents, eat his cake and interact with family. The party was a very special event!

2. Logan Growing Up: Watching my son grow up, learn new things and develop a fantastic sense of humor has definitely been one of the greatest highlights of 2009. At the beginning of the year he was so tiny and could barely hold his head up. As the year went on he went from rolling to crawling to walking. He also started the year cooing and as the year progressed he began babbling, singing and talking. But, by far, the best part has been seeing his sense of humor develop. He is just like his father...goofy! He laughs all the time and his laugh is the best sound I have ever heard. He is such a big boy!

1. Baptism/Logan's Child Dedication Ceremony: 2009 was also a very special year because it was the year that I truly decided to follow Jesus Christ and become the best Christian I can be. I've always believed in God and Jesus and I've attended church since I was very little. I was also baptized when I was young; however, I don't remember ever loving God and Jesus and feeling His love for me. After Logan was born, Jesse and I started attending church more frequently, praying together and with Logan and reading the Bible. God was really working through the people of Eastview (our church) and through the people around me because all of a sudden, I understood His love for me. I remember talking to Jesse about it one afternoon and he said, "I have nothing more to teach you...you get it!" After that I made the decision to be baptized again, this time by immersion. On December 13, 2009, Jesse baptized me in a private ceremony with just the two of us and Logan (and the baptism coordinator from the church because we needed her to hold Logan and make sure he didn't dive into the water!). It was an AMAZING experience. Jesse and I also decided to commit to raising Logan in a Christian home and we participated in a "Child Dedication Ceremony" at Eastview...we stood up in front of the church with other families and committed to raise Logan to the best of our ability and in a Christian home.

So, 2009 has been a truly exceptional year with many changes for the good and many lessons learned. We hope 2010 will be just as exceptional...Happy New Year!!!

(Now, I just have to get used to writing 2010 on my checks!!!)
